BIG CONGRATULATIONS:
Congratulations to Brad and Marla for completing their quest of running a marathon in all 50 states. They completed their quest last weekend (October 16/17 ) in New Jersey. Again congratulations to Brad and Marla for accomplishing this awesome feat.
What we are:
Paul sent this link about the actions of runners around a Boston Marathon participant who suffered cardiac arrest. The articles shows the positive aspect of the running community.
Walk with a Doc:
There are two upcoming Stormont Vail Health “Walk with a Doc” events. The dates are November 20 and December 4. The events will start at the East side of Lee Arena on the Washburn Campus. Starting time is 9 AM. Each walk will be about 60 minutes in duration.
The walks will be doctor led, safe, fun, and FREE! There will also be a brief presentation on an important health topic.
Mask are required, participants must be vaccinated, and social distancing should be observed. Walks are outside and may be cancelled due to weather.
South Topeka Rotary Pumpkin Run:
This is an in-person event is at Lake Shawnee Shelter House #1 at 8:30 AM on Saturday October 30. The cost is $30 and includes a t-shirt and participation medal. It is a 5K Run/Walk/Stroll event and costumes are encouraged. This is a hybrid event. If the participant is not comfortable with an in-person event they can sign up for a virtual event where they can pick the time, place to walk or run the 5K between 10/23 and 10/30.
Topeka to Auburn 2022;
Registration for the 2022 Topeka to Auburn is now open at runsignup.com Both in person and virtual race options are available. Current plans are for a point to point race. However COVID-19 protocols may require changes to the route and other aspects of the run. A special 40th Anniversary finishers medal will be awarded. Also a Striders Hoodie will be for sale .
An important aspect of the event is having enough volunteers. So if you are not planning on doing the T2A please sign up as volunteer. Contact myself or Paul about volunteering.
Another aspect of staging the T2A is seeking sponsorship/donations. We have received some already and are working with several entities to receive sponsorship/donations. If you think your employer or favorite business would want to sponsor or donate please feel free to contact Les Watson at lrrpwatson@aol.com or Paul Wagner at paul.wagner@ washburn.edu.
Thanks!
